I have had the honor since 2003 of being involved with the Research Industry Trends Survey, and it’s been quite the experience! Each year we’ve striven to make the study better and more usable to the MR community, and based on the success of the Q1 2010 iteration we must be doing something right:   I believe this is quite possibly the largest survey, in terms of number of market research professionals participating, ever. With 887 completes (nearly 2,000 with partials), it surpasses any other study of our industry that I am aware of.

The main theme for Q1 was “Is Respect for MR Industry Increasing or Decreasing”? We received some amazing feedback from participants, and the inclusion of iModerate sessions for additional probing generated a rich stream of qualitative insights to give us all greater perspective on this important issue.

The analysts are hard at work on the final report, and over the coming weeks there will be a whole slew of opportunities for our colleagues in the industry to read it, listen to various industry leaders discuss the learnings and implications, and participate in dialogues about the results of the study. In the meantime, here is a little preview of a few data points courtesy of Tom Anderson and iCharts:

MR Industry Concerns Top-Box
(Buyer VS. Supplier)

MR Industry Concerns Top-3 Box
(Buyer VS. Supplier)

I think these results are pretty interesting, especially the areas of alignment and differences between suppliers and clients. We’re looking forward to sharing the full results with everyone soon!
