I’ve known Matt Warta, CEO of GutCheck for over ten years now, and was privileged to work with him as an advisor for a few months as the company was beginning their evolution from the “SurveyMonkey of Qualitative”. That was the hallmark of their launch to the tech-driven insights consultancy that they are today. During that time what has always impressed me was how someone with a VC background could so effectively reverse engineer the research model, and create a disruptive start-up that in many ways is the paragon of the modern research supplier.
That model is one that leverages the speed and cost efficiencies of technology. Combined with a focus on client business issues vs. methodological orthodoxy, and it has been highly effective and oft duplicated in the years since. Matt was also one of the first to recognize the opportunity around Automation and an Agile approach to market research, while also continuously adapting and innovating to meet the needs of clients.
Because of the unique nature of the GutCheck story and Matt’s own transformation from an investor to a disruptor and, now to a visionary and highly effective CEO, it’s always a pleasure to chat with him and to share insights with our audience on the GutCheck story.
In this interview, we explore that journey, what he has learned, and what comes next for this groundbreaking company. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did; Matt is smart, funny and a heck of a nice guy.
Here is the interview; enjoy!
